Mark Webber says Red Bull will not be forced into a knee-jerk reaction following its defeat by McLaren and Ferrari at last weekend's German Grand Prix. Study backs FIM over Motegi race
MotoGP's governing body the FIM says an independent study of radiation levels at the Motegi track shows that the risk to health is "negligible" and that the Japanese Grand Prix should therefore go ahead. Some leading riders have been adamant that they will not attend the rescheduled Motegi race in early October as they fear the effects of radiation from the nuclear power station crisis that resulted from the earthquake and tsunami in Japan in March

Takuma Sato flew to the top of the times with his final lap of the second IndyCar Series practice session at Edmonton. In a repeat of the finish of practice one, reigning champion Dario Franchitti (Ganassi) had looked set to come away with the fastest time, only to be pipped after the chequered flag by a surprise contender. That man had been Newman/Haas' James Hinchcliffe in the first session, but in practice two it was KV driver Sato who threw in a 1m18.9772s to beat Franchitti by 0.0085 seconds.

De Puniet pulls out of US GP
Randy de Puniet has withdrawn from the United States Grand Prix following his crash in qualifying. The Frenchman had hoped to run in the warm-up at Laguna Seca this morning before making a final decision about his participation in the race, but ultimately opted to pull out. De Puniet had sustained fractures to two bones in his back and a suspected crack to a bone in his hip when he fell at Turn 5 yesterday.

Renault is considering giving its rearward facing exhaust layout another trial at the Hungarian Grand Prix, even though it elected not to race it in Germany this weekend. As part of a major update push from the Enstone-based team, it trialled a new Red Bull Racing-style blown diffuser layout in Friday practice at the Nurburgring. The exhausts on the new diffuser exit at the rear of the car rather than at the front of the sidepod, as the R31 had been originally designed.

A decision on whether this year's Japanese Grand Prix goes ahead will not be made until the end of July, according to MotoGP promoter Dorna. The race was due to be held on April 24, but was postponed to October 2 following the devastating earthquake and tsunami that hit the country earlier this year and the resulting worries over radiation after a leak developed at the Fukushima nuclear powerplant.

Rossi could stick with new Ducati
Valentino Rossi is now unsure about switching back to Ducati's old-spec GP11 following an improved performance at the German Grand Prix. Jazeman Jaafar and Menasheh Idafar have both been handed grid penalties ahead of this morning's second British Formula 3 race at Paul Ricard. Both drivers were involved in a multi-car fight for eighth place during yesterday's opening race, with Carlin racer Jaafar eventually taking the spot, while T-Sport's Idafar retired with a broken exhaust. Huff on top in Donington practice
Rob Huff's run of good form continued continued at Donington Park today, with the Briton topping the times in the World Touring Car Championship's opening practice session. Heavy rain greeted the drivers when they first took to the track, but Huff established himself at the head of the field early on. The Briton's Chevrolet team-mate Yvan Muller managed to knock him from the top spot as conditions improved slightly towards the end, but Huff responded with a 1m51.712s that proved beyond the reach of anyone else.

Andy Priaulx is confident that he can achieve success in the DTM, after being named as one of BMW's drivers for its comeback year in 2012. Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz says there are absolutely no doubts that Mark Webber will stay with the outfit next year, even after the team orders controversy. The team was involved in a row after asking Webber to 'maintain the gap' when fighting for second place with team-mate Sebastian Vettel in the latter stages of the British Grand Prix. GP3 graduates to get GP2 Final prize
Pirelli will give an additional prize payout to the highest-placed GP3 graduates finishing in the points in the one-off GP2 Final event in Abu Dhabi in November. GP2 announced earlier this week that it would merge its Asia series into the main championship, with a single standalone final event alongside the Formula 1 season finale this season. With many GP3 graduates likely to step up to the senior championship for the meeting, Pirelli will offer 15,000 euros to the 2011 GP3 driver with the best finish in the event and 10,000 euros to the second-best - provided both finish within the points-scoring positions (top eight in race one, top six in race two).
