Massa not pinning hopes on rule shift
Felipe Massa says Ferrari is not pinning its title hope beliefs solely on the fact that changes to the way teams can use blown diffusers from the British Grand Prix could mix up the order at the front of the field. Although Red Bull Racing's rivals are all hopeful that the ban on the off-throttle use of blown diffusers will allow them to close the gap on the world championship leaders, Massa says that Ferrari will need to keep pushing hard elsewhere if it is to win the championship.

FIA to experiment with double DRS zones
The FIA plans to keep experimenting with double DRS zones for the rest of the season - even though it believes the concept did not work at the Canadian Grand Prix. Race director Charlie Whiting said on Friday that both he and drivers did not believe that the second DRS zone in Canada, which was situated on the start/finish straight, was a success - because it handed too much of an advantage to a driver who had already overtaken his rival in the first zone. However, Whiting said that it was not straightforward to create a system that would automatically prevent a driver using a second DRS zone if he had already got past his rival.

Davidson, Bourdais to share at Imola
Peugeot duo Anthony Davidson and Sebastien Bourdais will share a car for the first time at the next round of the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup at Imola next weekend. British driver Davidson won the Spa round in May in the number seven Peugeot 908 with Marc Gene and Alex Wurz while Bourdais has usually driven the number nine machine with Pedro Lamy and Simon Pagenaud. With only two of the turbodiesel machine entered for Imola, Bourdais will move across to Davidson's 908 while the number eight car will be driven by regular occupants Franck Montagny and Stephane Sarrazin.

BMWs, SEATs get weight break
Drivers of BMW and SEAT machinery have been given weight reductions for the next round of the World Touring Car Championship at Porto. BMWs were given a 30kg weight increase for the previous round at Brno based on the compensation weight system that balances performance based on lap times over the past two rounds. The 320TC which is fielded by the ROAL, Proteam, Zengo-Dension and Weichers-Sport teams, has been given 10kg back, but remains the heaviest car in the field at 1200kg.

Whitmarsh hails engine rules agreement
McLaren boss Martin Whitmarsh has hailed the agreement reached over future engine rules as very positive after teams and manufacturers found a solution that pleased everybody on Wednesday. The Formula 1 Commission met yesterday and agreed to delay the introduction of the 'green' engines by a year, also scrapping plans to introduce four-cylinder units, to be replaced by V6 turbos engines.

Formula 1 teams are to face a further clampdown on engine mapping use from this weekend's European Grand Prix, AUTOSPORT has learned, with the FIA moving to eradicate special qualifying-only settings Ahead of the effective ban on the off-throttle use of blown diffusers from next month's British Grand Prix, motor racing's governing body has shown it is determined to prevent teams from using any form of clever engine use to help aerodynamic performance. Lancaster joins Auto GP field
Formula Renault 3.5 frontrunner Jon Lancaster will compete in Auto GP this season after signing a deal with Super Nova Racing. Lancaster will replace former A1GP South Africa driver Adrian Zaugg for the third Auto GP event of the year this weekend at Brno. The deal comes shortly after the young Briton's impressive performance in testing at Barcelona, in which he posted the third fastest time at his first attempt behind the wheel.

Nasr dominates wet race three
Felipe Nasr extended his already substantial lead of the British Formula 3 championship by dominating a wet final race at Brands Hatch this afternoon. The Brazilian Carlin driver started third, but leapt straight into second as Sino Visions Adderly Fong was slow away from second on the grid. Muller leads Chevy practice dominance
Yvan Muller led a Chevrolet 1-2-3 in the opening practice session for the World Touring Car Championship round at Brno. After sitting out the first half of the session, reigning champion Muller jumped to the top of the timesheets with just six minutes of free practice to run. His fastest lap of 2m11.039s was just over a tenth of a second quicker than team-mate Alain Menu, who finished the session third.

Monteiro fears weekend will be tough
SUNRED Engineering's Tiago Monteiro fears his first World Touring Car Championship weekend with SEAT's new turbo engine will not be an easy one, following a problematic practice session at Brno. Monteiro, who will run the new petrol 1.6-litre turbo engine for the first time following its debut appearance at the Hungaroring in several of the sister SUNRED cars, finished the opening practice session last after failing to complete even one flying lap due to mechanical issues. Franchitti pips Sato in final practice
Dario Franchitti was quickest again in final practice ahead of qualifying for the IndyCar Series' Milwaukee round. For much of the session, it looked like KV Racing Technology might come away with an encouraging one-two. The field was split into two groups, each getting half an hour of running, and KV's Tony Kanaan was fastest in the first half, before his team-mate Takuma Sato hit the front in the second segment

Rick Kelly wins as leaders tangle
Rick Kelly benefited from a restart tangle between the three leaders to take a shock victory for Kelly Racing in the first of this weekend's V8 Supercars races at Hidden Valley Raceway. Bruno Spengler took his third DTM pole position from four races this year with a near perfect lap in qualifying at Lausitz. Having made it into the one-lap shoot-out for pole that is Q4, Spengler was set a tough task by Mattias Ekstrom to knock the Abt Audi driver off the top spot. But the HWA Mercedes driver made his opponent look ordinary, lapping the circuit in 1m19.119s - almost half a second quicker than the Swede - to seize the initiative.

Sauber defends not using Gutierrez
Peter Sauber has said it would make no sense to promote reserve driver Esteban Gutierrez into a Formula 1 race seat just yet - as he ruled out the possibility of the youngster being called into action if Sergio Perez has to skip another race. Sauber had to recruit McLaren reserve Pedro de la Rosa for last weekend's Canadian Grand Prix after Perez was forced to withdraw from the event following Friday practice when he felt unwell. The team has no doubts that Perez will be back to full fitness for next weekend's race in Valencia, but Sauber has already dismissed talk that Gutierrez could be given an opportunity if there are ongoing issues for his regular driver.

Ferrari says it will reserve judgement on its chances of winning the world championship this year until after the British Grand Prix - even though it thinks it may need a 'Lourdes' miracle to pull off the type of win that Jenson Button delivered in Canada. Hirvonen determined to raise game
Ford driver Mikko Hirvonen says he is determined to up his game ahead of this week's Acropolis Rally, as Ford still searches for its first gravel win in the Fiesta RS WRC.
