Force India not quite on points pace
Force India admitted that at present it is not quite quick enough to score points after Adrian Sutil and Paul di Resta finished 11th and 12th in Melbourne. The duo both managed to run in the top 10 for a while, but were edged back by the Saubers and Sebastien Buemi's Toro Rosso in the end. Will Power started his 2011 IndyCar title bid with another commanding street course pole position in St Petersburg. The 2010 series runner-up had been quickest in two out of three practice sessions, and after his Penske team-mate Ryan Briscoe and Ganassi's Scott Dixon briefly held provisional pole in the 'fast six' final session, Power produced the fastest lap of the weekend to take pole with a 1m01.962s. Nico Terol underlined his 125cc title favourite status with a crushing win in the season-opener in Qatar. The rest of the field barely saw the Aspar Aprilia rider, as having been fastest in every practice session and qualifying, Terol broke away from the pack at the start and pulled away at a second per lap early on. His lead got as high as 13 seconds at one stage, before he eased off to cruise home with a seven-second cushion.

Edwards confident about new tyre
Bristol polesitter Carl Edwards seems confident he will be able to replicate his qualifying pace in Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race after running Goodyear's new choice of right-side tyres during Saturday's practice. Teams tested a new tyre specification during the two practice sessions of the day at Bristol Motor Speedway, following NASCAR's decision to change the right-sides after excessive wear led to concerns for Sunday's race. Goodyear had introduced a new compound for this weekend which was softer than what was used at Bristol last summer, but it failed to rubber-in the track, compounding the early wear issues.

ORECA quickest in final practice
The old-specification ORECA Peugeot set a surprise fastest time in the final practice session before qualifying for the Sebring 12 Hours. Audi had looked set to lead the way until ORECA's Loic Duval put in a 1m48.704s right at the end of the session to take the quickest time by a second.

AFS picks Matos for IndyCar move
Raphael Matos has sealed a late deal to return to the IndyCar Series with his former Indy Lights team AFS Racing. The Brazilian lost his seat with De Ferran Dragon Racing, where he had spent the first two years of his IndyCar career, last winter, with the team initially dropping him for Tony Kanaan before ultimately closing its doors. But Matos has been thrown a lifeline by Gary Peterson's AFS team, which is graduating to IndyCar as an independent operation for the first time after being an occasional co-entrant with Andretti Autosport in the past.

F1 could eradicate high noses
Formula 1 could make moves to change the design of high noses over the next few years in a bid to try and avoid a repeat of the type of take-off accident that Mark Webber suffered in Valencia last year. That is the view of the FIA Institute's technical advisor Andy Mellor, who reckons that cars being launched into the air after nose-to-wheel collisions, like when Webber struck the back of Heikki Kovalainen's Lotus, could be eradicated by tweaking regulations. Speaking in the FIA Institute's new IQ magazine, Mellor reckons that ongoing research into F1 collisions may point to the fact that lower nose designs may be better
